The U.S. govt. estimates that up to 80% of U.S. companies should export but don’t. Why not! There are several reasons. U.S. sales are currently adequate, company lack of knowledge or lack of experience. Many companies don’t understand the import/export process. They may have to change their product to make it exportable (i.e. changing their packaging or changing the product to make it more palatable to the foreign end user).

And then there’s the paperwork! The export paperwork is said to be the biggest barrier to trade. This prohibits companies from getting into the export business. However, much of that has changed. For a small fee, Freight forwarders are now available to assist you through every step of the process.
